Poster Contest Winner Recognized (Dec 19, 2012)
Cristian Martinez, an eighth grader at Lyle Briggs Fundamental School, was recently honored for his award-winning art poster by Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (MWD), sponsor of an annual "Water is Life" student art contest. The student's poster was among 36 selected for recognition from 194 entries, representing artwork from grades Kindergarten through 12, submitted by water agencies in Metropolitan's six-county service area.
Martinez's poster received a third place award in the Grades 7-12 division in Monte Vista Water District's local contest held in May 2012. The District sent nine winning posters from its contest to MWD for judging in the regional contest. The 36 award-winning posters are featured in a 2018 calendar, published by MWD that was unveiled at a special event on December 7, 2017 at the agency's headquarters in Los Angeles, where the student artists were recognized for depicting conservation concepts through art.
